People’s Party promises young people tax deductions of up to €26,000 for first home purchase

People’s Party (PP) leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo has once again reaffirmed his housing construction plan, under which he intends to build one million properties over four years if he becomes Spain’s new prime minister in 2027. In addition, Feijóo claims that the initiatives included in his plan will create 750,000 jobs.

During a visit to the El Cañaveral neighbourhood, one of the major residential developments in southeastern Madrid, Feijóo focused on young people. He promised them a series of tax measures, including an income tax benefit during the first four years of employment, a reduction in property purchase tax from 10% to 4% and a reduction in VAT, as well as an exemption from taxes on donations from parents to children for the purchase of a home.

The PP leader also reiterated his intention to introduce the «Young Family Savings Account» programme for people under the age of 40 in order to encourage savings for home purchases in exchange for additional tax benefits. The measure would allow contributions of €2,000 per year up to a maximum amount of €40,000, with a 20% income tax deduction applying to this amount. In addition, state guarantees of up to 95% or 100% of the value of a first home purchase were announced.

To accelerate housing construction and achieve the promised target of one million residential properties, the opposition leader decided to provide legal certainty by evicting «okupas» within 24 to 48 hours, repealing the 2023 «Housing Law» and introducing a 90-day period of «administrative silence». In other words, if a private company does not receive notification from public authorities within three months, it will have complete freedom to continue construction.
