Verano Joven is available again
For four years now, Spanish youth have been able to take advantage of various discounts on public transport to travel after a long period of study or work. Trips for residents Spain, born between 1996 and 2008, will again become more affordable for their budget as most of them prefer to travel by bus or train.
Spain’s Council of Ministers has given the green light to discounts known as “Verano Joven” (Youth Summer), maintaining benefits from previous years. This measure has already been published in the Official State Gazette (OGE). Young people aged 18 to 30 will be able to get discounts on medium-distance trains and buses; on Avant, commercial flights and Interrail if they travel between 1 July and 30 September 2026.
What discounts are available?
The Ministry of Transport has divided benefits into two types:
- 90% discount on government-run regular bus services, regular medium-distance trains and trains running on one-metre gauge tracks. On average, over the previous three years, the discount on each one-time bus ticket was 24.5 euros.
- 50% discount on single tickets for Avant trains as well as commercial long-distance or high-speed train services. In the latter case, the maximum discount would be 30 euros per ticket, although the average discount usually did not exceed 18 euros.
In addition, young people will also receive discounts of up to 50% on an Interrail Global Flexible ticket for 10 days over two months, provided it is purchased through Renfe.
How to get a discount
To receive these discounts, you will need to register for another year on the Ministry of Transport website “Verano Joven”. Under the previous program, more than 2.3 million young people were registered and more than 6.8 million trips were taken in 2025. When data is collected over three years, more than 4 million young people took advantage of the measure, which included a total of 16 million trips.
