Where in the EU do most people live in apartments?
The share of the population living in apartments exceeds 60% in three more EU countries:
- Latvia (64.4%);
- Malta (63.1%);
- Estonia (60.6%).
In the following five countries this figure varies between 50-60%:
- Lithuania (59.5%);
- Germany (59.4%);
- Greece (59.4%);
- Italy (58.9%);
- Czech Republic (50.9%).
Where the majority of the population lives in separate houses
In the remaining EU member states, the majority of the population lives in single-family detached houses. The undisputed leader in this regard is Ireland (90.2%), with the EU average being 51.4%. It is followed by:
- Netherlands (77.1%);
- Belgium (76.8%);
- Croatia (75.8%);
- Cyprus (74.1%);
- Hungary (73.3%);
- Slovenia (72.1%).
Other types of housing
As for other types housing, then they are most widespread in the Netherlands (2.9%) and Germany (2.1%), and are completely absent in Portugal.
